Hawaii’s alluring beauty and incredible beaches draw countless visitors each year. But aside from being everyone’s dream vacation spot, it’s also the perfect setting for an unforgettable destination wedding. Throughout Hawaii, the locations are ideal for any couple’s dream day. From adventurous waterfalls to intimate private beaches – Hawaii has a bit of it all. Look no further if you’re wondering which Hawaiian island is right for your special day. Throughout this blog, I’m sharing my favorite parts of each island to help you find the perfect fit for your wedding day. Let’s get started finding you the best Hawaii island to get married on!
Starting strong with the Big Island. The Big Island is one of my favorites for the perfect mix of adventure and jaw-dropping scenery. Not only will you find the rich sandy beaches we all know and love, but you can expect volcanic craters, lush rainforests, and even black sand beaches for a more dramatic vibe. Because of the diverse landscapes, you can expect a variety of climates perfect for different wedding aesthetics and vibes. Whether you’re looking for an intimate beach ceremony, private mountain bridals, or an adventurous ceremony by the volcanoes. This island is typically less crowded than Oahu and Maui, making it perfect for an intimate ceremony.
My favorite spot on the Big Island is Kona Coast. Kona Coast has some of the most beautiful sunsets over the Pacific, incredible beaches with lava rock backdrops, and provides easy access to great resorts and top-of-the-line vendors. The Big Island is an excellent location for couples looking for a dramatic backdrop with some privacy for the best Hawaii island to get married.
Oahu is next on the list for finding the perfect island for your big day. Not only is Oahu the perfect mix of city life and tropical oasis. You’ll find breathtaking natural beauty throughout the island, making it easy to pick a ceremony location – there’s no wrong choice when it’s all beautiful! If you or your guests travel from the mainland, you’ll have easy access to the island, flying into the largest airport with the most direct flights! Throughout Oahu, you can expect luxury venues and resorts, hidden beaches, and lush mountains filled with breathtaking beauty.
My favorite spot for an Oahu beach wedding? North Shore. While the location is less crowded than Waikiki, I love the laid-back surfer atmosphere. It’s a stunning area with some of the most beautiful sunsets and perfect waves for my adventurous couples looking to try something new!
As a Maui elopement photographer, I would be remiss if I didn’t try and sell you on my little piece of paradise. Maui is my favorite place in the whole world, and I’m not kidding. From the unbeatable beaches, breathtaking views, and luxury resorts and venues – how can you go wrong?? Not only is this island great for adventure, but it’s also incredibly accessible for guests who need a bit of support. If you and your partner are looking for a good mix of adventurous experience and relaxation, consider Maui the best Hawaii island to get married on.
When it comes to choosing my favorite location in Maui, it’s so tricky because I’ve fallen in love with so many incredible places here! However, if I had to choose, I would say Hana. Described as a remote, untouched paradise, Hana is perfect for an intimate elopement. Wedding photos are always epic here, with dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and black-sand beaches. It’s also a nice little adventure traveling the scenic drive to Hana!
Last on our list of Hawaiian islands is Kauai! If you’ve dreamed of escaping reality and going somewhere warm, green, and near the ocean, Kauai is the spot for you. Because of its lush beauty, this island is ideal for nature lovers. Often, there are fewer crowds, allowing couples to experience a more relaxing and private wedding day. Not only is the island super green, but there are incredible cliffs, waterfalls, and hidden beaches. Kauai is an excellent spot for an intimate wedding day.
My favorite spot on Kauai is North Shore in Hanalei and Princeville. The mountain backdrops in North Shore are unbeatable, featuring the Nā Pali Coast. Enjoy romantic beaches like Hanalei Bay and the small-town yet luxurious feel. It’s an incredible spot for any occasion!
While the idea of choosing one island for your destination wedding may seem like an impossible task, know all of the islands are beautiful. Whichever you choose will be breathtaking and become a little piece of your family’s legacy.
