Ever since I was little, I dreamed of living in Hawai’i. Waking up to the sound of crashing waves and embracing the slow island life. Throughout my time on the island, I’ve learned quickly how to work with the beautiful scenery here. Where I can legally capture your memories and, most importantly, learn how to create once-in-a-lifetime photoshoots with clients. Choosing a photographer for your big day can be difficult. Especially when you’ve found yourself scrolling through a sea of incredibly talented photographers online. Throughout the blog, I will explain why choosing a photographer living in Hawai’i will be the best thing you do for your wedding day.
One of my main reasons to book a Maui elopement photographer who lives in Hawai’i is that you’re supporting local vendors and their economy. Hawai’i is a beautiful place that welcomes thousands of tourists every year. Utilizing local vendors allows them to continue to do what they love in the place you love! As you plan your destination wedding or elopement in Hawai’i, try to buy locally-made products. Not only does that support businesses too, it’s an easy way to celebrate Hawai’i’s culture on your big day.
Another huge perk to booking a Hawai’i resident is that we’re familiar with the islands. As residents, my family and I have spent a lot of time exploring the islands and educating ourselves on legal locations that are safe and filled with breathtaking views. Often, photographers who aren’t familiar with the area take clients to beaches with stricter photography laws or are just not the safest for photos—especially with littles! If you’re visiting the area and looking for photos that capture the essence and beauty of Hawai’i, book a photographer who knows the area well. One of my biggest goals as a Maui elopement photographer and photographer is to showcase paradise on earth while providing clients a fun and safe experience.
As many of my clients know, photography is my full-time job. Because of that, we do everything we can to ensure we are licensed and legal. Not only are we licensed in Hawai’i to do business, but every time I have a session booked, I obtain a permit from the state. It’s crucial to my husband and I that we do everything in our power to work legally and in a way that supports our community. As residents and legal business owners, we know which beaches we can lawfully do business on. We strive to work in a way that supports and respects our community. We can continue to promote sustainability and island culture by obtaining permits and teaching tourists the importance of respecting the land during our shoots.
As a Maui elopement photographer and videographer team, we have extensive experience with the best venues on the island. If you’re traveling from out of the area, having a team of local vendors will make your day so much easier. Once you’ve chosen a local photographer, ask them all the questions. As an elopement photographer, I have worked with many incredible vendors at beautiful venues. I have a list I share with clients to help plan their day with the top venues on the island. I cannot emphasize enough how important having a knowledgeable and experienced team of vendors on your wedding day is. We can guide you through the planning process, adjust to weather and lighting, and have on-site experience.
Throughout our time on the island, we’ve had experience working with all kinds of light. Hawai’i is known for its incredible sunsets and sunrises. However, the intense light can be difficult for inexperienced photographers visiting the islands for the first time. While booking a photographer from home seemingly makes more sense, you probably don’t want them experimenting with lighting conditions on your wedding day. Find a local photographer you love. Your memories will be safe and captured with beautiful, glowing light.
As a Maui elopement photographer, I can also recommend the best times for your photoshoot based on lighting. We are forever living outdoors in our beautiful backyard – the ocean! We know when the sun is at its brightest and when it’s best for those dreamy golden hour moments.
While planning your destination wedding or Maui elopement, I hope you can create life-long memories of one of the most beautiful places on earth. Enjoy the slower-paced island life, and make memories with your person.
